"I don't live in a big city or out in nature but instead I have found most of my inspiration in common things from this small town. Hands, flowers, beatles, etc. All beautifully complicated and detailed in such a simple area."
What is your creative or educational background and history behind how you created your business?
I am in high school art classes, but have no true education on how to start or upkeep anything near a business. I started it to have a way to get my style of art out there at first.
Can you take us through your process from inspiration to final product?
I have a program on our old, family iPad that I use to draw on. It's fairly straightforward, just using my fingers usually as the pen. The drawing is definitely my favorite part. After I decide that the design is done or close to it, I can upload it to my computer and resize and print. From that point, it's time to create the finished product.
What is a standout or special moment in your creative work so far?
My favorite part of what I do is seeing the physical object get turned into the design and then being able to actually see it turn into the finished product. Dreaming up the end result is one thing, but actually creating it is totally different. The hands I have drawn are either mine or someone that I know. The flowers are all ones that I love or have a memory connected to. Almost all the designs have a reason for being used.
What dreams are on the horizon for the future of your brand?
I hope to open an Etsy shop soon, but I really want to be able to do more custom orders! Working with people is truly one of my favorite things. It's a great feeling when I see my dream design come to life and it's like ten times better seeing someone else's excitement from me helping theirs become a reality too.
Are you bringing anything new or special to Mod Shop this year that you are particularly excited about?
This year every single one of my products has been hand drawn by myself. I am particularly excited about the temporary tattoos, though. They're really easy and safe to wear and I honestly think it's just awesome seeing people wear them. It's like they're displaying my art with pride.
